Otago occupies a large area in the southeast of the South Island.

We had already passed through Otago when travelling from Haast to Milford Sound. We entered Otago near it’s northern limits when we passed over Haast Summit. We had lunch at Maude Winery in Wanaka and camped at Kingston near it’s southern border. We exited Otago to Southlands and visited Te Anau and Milford Sound.

Returning to Otago, our additional time will focus on Queenstown, Dunedin and Oamaru.
