  • Huka Falls

Huka Falls is the most visited natural attraction in New Zealand. It is only a few minutes drive from the charming town of Taupo at the outlet of Lake Taupo. Huka Falls is on the Waikato River, the longest river in New Zealand. Since it drains New Zealand’s largest lake and is so near the outlet, it’s water is a stunningly beautiful blue.

This bridge is an easy walk from the parking area.

Moving to the bridge, these are the waters rushing towards you from upstream

And this is the view as the raging torrent rushes downstream.

The outlet at the downstream end shows the whitewater plunging into the downstream flows.

This view from an outlook above the downstream end of the falls shows energy flowing into the plunge pool! I wish we could include a soundtrack. The water truly roars through!

Huka Falls is easily accessible, easy to walk around and view, and very impressive. We finished our visit in less than an hour and headed on to Te Puia.

    Next.
