We’ve talked about New Zealand’s amazing coffee culture, the incredible produce and the scrumptious grass fed meats…..
Did we mention the spectacular ice cream in New Zealand? Beyond a doubt the greatest risk to the waistline in New Zealand is the ice cream!
Kudos to the free range dairy cows!

Our last full day in New Zealand began with some chores. We had to refill the van’s propane tank, return the campervan to a depot out near the airport and check into a hotel for our last night. All of this took until about noon.
Then it was playtime!
Across the street from our hotel was KK Malaysian Food. We began with lunch there, Mixed Seafood Laksa, Eggplant Sambal and two ice-cold Singha Beers.
Uber picked us up at the restaurant and took us down to the Viaduct on the harbour, the home of the New Zealand Natural Premium Ice Cream Boutique.

The Viaduct Harbour, identified in the text at the bottom right of this photo, is a marina within the larger harbour surrounded on the inside by two piers with pubs and restaurants and the outside by a scenic seaside pier. It was the perfect setting for our last afternoon in New Zealand’s sunny summer.
Tomorrow, back home to winter… brrrr!!!

This is the view from the inside pier looking at the boats and across to the outer harbour. As is so often the case, under beautiful New Zealand skies.

This is Bivacco. What a great view, the perfect place! Calamari anyone?

Ah, the harbour!

Look at that sky!

What would Jimmy Buffett say?

Now on the outside pier, we’re looking back at Bivacco and admiring this classic beauty!

How about this Maori arch? Check out the stonework columns!

The Maritime Museum is adorned with colourful murals under another spectacular sky!

Looking to the right, you see how close we are to downtown.

Everyone’s welcome here!

The white roof on the left is the office of the Maritime Museum.

Before we head for dinner, one last look out to the harbour.

A little more Italiano? Portofino here we come!

Vino Rosso, Gambas Inferno and Pizza Margherita. What more could you ask for?
With an Uber back to the hotel, we have a bit of packing ahead. While it was all carry-on coming over, we now have a guitar to check. Luckily, we picked up a very durable hard case in Whangarei. Packing was a piece of cake. Clothes out for the morning, our final sleep in new Zealand.
