The Sky Tower, comparable in height to the Eiffel Tower, overlooks Auckland. It’s 328 metres tall and the second tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere, surpassed by Autograph Tower in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the 28th tallest tower in the world.
The photo below of a display in the Sky Tower shows the locations of parts of the city and the world from the observation deck in the tower. It shows the North Pole, 14,083 km away, to the left in the blue margin on the bottom. Honolulu is centre right, 7,083 km away, and Vancouver is far right, 11,324 km away.
This photo looking north from the Sky Tower includes most of the photo above, but note the new buildings obstructing what was a clear view on the right. Auckland has obviously grown a great deal in the 25 years since the Sky Tower was completed.
This photo looks east northeast and shows many modern new towers against the skyline.
This photo looks southeast. It and the two preceding photos show that the downtown core of Auckland is quite concentrated within a small area around the Sky Tower.
