  • Akaroa

On February 7 we picked up our camper van and began the next phase of our adventure.

Jucy was to be our home for 5 weeks. We headed out from Christchurch to Akaroa. A long and winding road.

We arrived just in time to get aboard our cruise.

We headed out from beautiful Akaroa.

    Another day, another adventure!

Hector’s Dolphins are the worlds smallest and rarest marine dolphins. They range in length from 1.2 – 1.4 metres and typical body weights range from 40 – 60 kg.

They have a reputation for being playful and acrobatic, but we only saw calm ones.

Little Blue Penguins range from 30 – 33 cm in height and usually weigh ~1.5 kg.

Little Blue Penguins are endangered and strong conservation efforts are being made to save them. There will be more on that below.

For the moment we carried on with our tour and took in a group of seals sunning themselves on the shoreline.

We stopped for refreshments and a snack at a sidewalk cafe in beautiful Akaroa. We made plans to provision ourselves as campers and prepare for the trip to Pohatu Penguins in the morning. A short grocery stop at Four Square and we were off for the night.

    Next.
